This specimen is a small but fine example of chromium-bearing clinochlore, commonly referred to by collectors as kammererite. Though formerly recognized as a separate mineral species, kammererite is now classified as a chromian variety of clinochlore within the chlorite group. This reclassification hasn’t changed its popularity; the unique purplish-pink colour remains one of the most distinct hues in the mineral world.
This specimen features a cluster of well-defined, gemmy, purplish-red monoclinic crystals on a fine-grained matrix. Originating from the renowned Kop Krom Mine in Turkey, this piece most likely dates back to the 1970s—a period that produced many of the finest kammererite specimens available. This chromium-rich mineral variety is highly sought after, and have become increasingly rare on the market.
