This is a rare and attractive specimen of chalcophanite from the Cole Mine, located in the historic copper mining town of Bisbee, Arizona. Chalcophanite—a hydrated zinc manganese oxide—is an uncommon mineral in display-quality specimens, particularly from this locality. This piece showcases some silvery-black botryoidal chalcophanite, has some great sparkle to it. The Cole Shaft operated intermittently between 1905 and 1975, and specimens from this mine are seldom seen on the market. A fine example of this elusive mineral from a classic American locality.
