This intriguing specimen features a rich chalcocite matrix hosting numerous brilliant metallic chalcocite crystals nestled within open vugs throughout the piece. The crystals display sharp, lustrous faces with classic gunmetal-grey tones and strong metallic irridescent sheen. Scattered among the chalcocite are a few small quartz crystals. On one side of the specimen, there is a patch of mysterious green-yellow mineralization, highlighted by a small red arrow affixed to the piece for reference. The exact nature of this secondary mineral was never determined, it was intended for testing but remains unidentified.
Originating from the world-famous Tsumeb Mine in Namibia, this piece represents the kind of complex, multi-mineral assemblage for which the locality is celebrated. Tsumeb is renowned among mineralogists and collectors for producing an unparalleled diversity of species, many formed through multiple stages of oxidation and hydrothermal alteration.
