Chalcocite

Tsumeb Mine, Otjikoto Region
Namibia
Dimensions: 2.7x1.7x0.6 cm
Price: CA

$80.00

Sulfides are relatively uncommon from the renowned Tsumeb Mine in Namibia, and well-crystallized examples of chalcocite are particularly rare. Most chalcocite specimens from this legendary locality tend to be micro-sized or display crude, "lumpy" forms. However, this exceptional thumbnail specimen stands out with its highly lustrous, gun-metal silvery-grey, heavily striated crystals, free of matrix. Despite the vast copper deposits at Tsumeb, chalcocite is surprisingly scarce, making well-formed specimens like this highly sought after. The sharp, machined-looking crystals exhibit exceptional lustre and precise form, elevating this piece to competition-level quality.
