Chabazite (var. Phacolite)

Glenmont, Kings Co., Nova Scotia
Canada
Dimensions: 5.7x5.1x4.2 cm
Largest crystal size: 24 mm
Price: CA

This is an exceptionally rare variety of twinned chabazite known as phacolite. What makes this example stand out from the more typical phacolite we usually see is the profusion of twinned faces across the crystal surface. There are so many that the crystal appears rounded and softly shimmering as you turn it in the light. To my knowledge, this is the only locality that produces chabazite crystals with this distinctive habit. The crystals are tucked into a small crevice in the matrix and occur alongside pearly white heulandite, creating a beautiful and mineralogically interesting association.

Collected from the relatively new and increasingly promising locality at Glenmont, Nova Scotia, this specimen reflects the diverse zeolite mineralization found within the area’s basalt cavities. Glenmont has quickly become recognized for producing high-quality chabazite, heulandite, and related zeolite species, often with excellent crystal form and balance.

A fine example of "phacolite" chabazite paired with heulandite, and a desirable addition for collectors of Canadian zeolites, or Bay of Fundy mineralogy.
