This is a beautiful specimen of crystallized celestine from the classic Maybee Quarry, located in Scofield, Michigan. The piece is a small cabinet-sized cluster composed of dozens of sharp, well-formed, prismatic crystals with a soft, translucent icey-blue colour and excellent lustre. The crystals measure up to 1.4 cm in length and are mostly undamaged, though a few minor imperfections are visible upon closer inspection. The cluster is nearly complete all around, with crystals covering most of the surface except for the lower portion where it was naturally separated from the pocket wall. There is little to no matrix present.
This is a very attractive and well-balanced specimen of celestine from a locality that has become increasingly difficult to source. A classic old piece from a now hard-to-find source, and a strong representative example of celestine from the Scofield Quarry. Comes from the collection of Dr. Peter Tarassoff.
