This is a plate of off-white transparent calcite crystals clustered tightly to one another with short points at the end of their prisms. These crystals have grown over an earlier generation of tiny marcasite coated calcite points. Very lustrous and displays well!
The Grant Quarry is part of the Beekmantown Formation, which appears in several locations from Saratoga Springs, NY, through Herkimer, NY, St-Clothilde, Quebec, St-Eustache, Quebec, to Greely, Ontario. Mineral specimens from these areas are predominantly old material.
