This is a plate of marcasite coated, orange/gold pointed transparent calcite crystals clustered tightly to one another. The specimen has a second generation growth of clear calcite with short points at the end of their prisms. Lustrous!
The Grant Quarry is part of the Beekmantown Formation, which appears in several locations from Saratoga Springs, NY, through Herkimer, NY, St-Clothilde, Quebec, St-Eustache, Quebec, to Greely, Ontario. Mineral specimens from these areas are predominantly old material.
