"This specimen is a classic example of 'Iceland Spar,' a historically significant, optic-grade variety of calcite. It features a well-crystallized, colourless, translucent scalenohedron with exceptional internal clarity and silky faces. The crystal is cleaved on the back side and the bottom. Iceland Spar, prized for its birefringent properties, was historically used in optical instruments. This fine specimen originates from Berufjörður, a fjord in eastern Iceland, an area also renowned for its exceptional zeolite specimens. Well-crystallized examples of Iceland Spar are increasingly difficult to find, making this a remarkable addition to any collection.
