Calcite

$70.00

An attractive palm sized specimen consisting of colourless to champagne-toned calcite crystals tightly clustered across the surface, each showing elongated tapered prisms and stout pointed terminations. The crystals are transparent with vitreous lustre and display beautifully as a cohesive group. The calcites have grown over an earlier generation quartz druse coated with patches of marcasite, with inclusions of the sulfide visible within some of the crystals.

The piece comes from the Grant Quarry, part of the Beekmantown Formation, a geologic unit that extends from New York State through Quebec and into Ontario. Specimens from this formation are often older material and are known for their distinctive calcite and sulfide associations.
