Calcite

This specimen features a single dogtooth calcite crystals displaying the golden-peach coloration characteristic of this locality. The quarry, in operation since 1970 by Allied Chemicals Limited, is an immense open-pit site accessible to collectors only through organized mineral club visits. This particular piece was collected in 2023 during a field trip, from a boulder on the quarry floor. The bottom end the crystals is missing the tip, though it does not detract from the overall presentation in the perky box. Under UV light, the calcite fluoresces pink or orange depending on the wavelength.
