This specimen features a complex parallel growth, scalenohedral, translucent calcite crystal with a creamy honey-yellow hue, perched on a dolomitic limestone matrix. The crystal is composed of numerous sharply defined sub-crystals that together form a single, intricate structure—reminiscent of a pine cone perhaps. This particular piece comes from the lesser-known Flamboro Quarry in Flamborough, Ontario. Formerly accessible to collectors and mineral clubs, the site is now closed to public collecting. This is especially unfortunate, as the quarry was well-regarded for producing excellent specimens of fluorite, sphalerite, and distinctive calcite like this example.
