These calcites from the Stank Mine, from England's historic iron district, are well known for their lustre and gemminess over 100 years later. Slight red and black colour at the base of some crystals is due to minute amounts of hematite. Dr. Tarassoff acquired this specimen as part of an exchange with the British Museum of Natural History during a visit many decades ago. This is a historic specimen from the W.R. Storr collection acquired by the BMNH from A.W. Kingsbury (1906-1968), curator at Oxford University Museum of Natural History). Specimen still has the original BMNH label. Very little to no damage.
