Calcite

Here's a specimen of champaign coloured calcite with short points, grown over an earler growth of sharp marcasite coated calcite points. The surface of these crystals has a light sprinkling of marcasite on the faces of the termination. Nice!

The quarry is part of the Beekmantown Formation that shows up at several locations, From Saratoga Springs NY, through Herkimer NY, St-Clothilde Quebec, St-Eustache Quebec to Greely Ontario. Mineral specimens from such areas are predominantly old material.
