Calcite

Here's a nice cabinet specimen of crystal clear calcite with short points, grown over sharp orange dog-tooth calcite coated in marcasite, all grown over a layer of smoky quartz. Very cool material!

The quarry is part of the Beekmantown Formation that shows up at several locations, From Saratoga Springs NY, through Herkimer NY, St-Clothilde Quebec, St-Eustache Quebec to Greely Ontario. Mineral specimens from such areas are predominantly old material.
