This specimen features fine baricite from the type locality, the renowned phosphate mineral occurrence at Rapid Creek, Yukon. Baricite, a light blue, platy mineral, belongs to the Vivianite group and is essentially a magnesium-rich variant of Vivianite. This mineral forms in gaps in quartz veins where they become mineralized with phosphates, in this case specifically Baricite, a magnesium-iron phosphate. Baricite was first discovered at this locality and has since been identified in only four other locations worldwide, highlighting its unique mineralogical characteristics and significant rarity. Purchased by Dr. Tarassoff in 1979.
