A small section of matrix from the famous Tsumeb Mine in Namibia, displaying sparkling aggregates of deep blue azurite scattered across the surface. Associated with the azurite is a small cerussite twin, as well as some pale secondary minerals that may represent dundasite or possibly plancheite.
The Tsumeb deposit is renowned worldwide for the remarkable diversity and quality of its oxidized copper minerals. Even small matrix pieces from this locality can show beautiful mineral associations that reflect the complex geochemistry of the deposit. This specimen comes from the international mineral collection of Peter Tarassoff.
