Arsenic, Proustite

Jáchymov, Karlovy Vary District, Karlovy Vary Region
Czech Republic
Dimensions: 4.7x3.2x2.6 cm
Price: CA

We do not often see examples of native arsenic ore featuring ruby red proustite crystals in some crevasses, from this famous old mine.  The town of Jachymov holds a rich mining history, initially known for its silver mining, leading to the minting of the famous "Joachimsthaler" coins in the 16th century, which later contributed to the etymology of the currency name "dollar." The Svornost mine, established in 1525, stands as the oldest continuously operating mine in Europe and was the pioneering site for radium extraction, holding a significant place in mining history.

Note: All prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD). International customers are charged in CAD, exchange rate is calculated automatically by your bank/paypal upon checkout.
