This specimen features a vug filled with white celestine crystals and lumps of earthy-green mineralization, which Dr. Tarassoff believed to be ankerite. About the specimen he says, "Ankerite is a member of the dolomite group and can’t be distinguished from dolomite by XRD. However it’s yellow colour is quite distinct. Since ankerite forms a solid solution series with dolomite, without a chemical analysis it would be best to label the specimen as ankerite-dolomite series."
This specimen originates from the Francon Quarry, located in the central part of the City of Montreal. The quarry, known for its alkalic intrusive sill in limestone, ceased operations in 1981 and will never reopen. This makes specimens from this location particularly rare and valuable to collectors.
