Amphibole Supergroup, Fluorapatite

Here's an excellent Grenvillian specimen showcasing some excellent black amphibole supergroup crystals (possibly magnesio katophorite  or ferri-fluoro-katophorite) associated with gemmy green fluorapatites. Katophorite minerals typically form in alkaline igneous rocks alongside other calcium and sodium-rich minerals and are classified under the Amphibole mineral supergroup. Specimens of this quality are rare globally and are known to occur only in the calcite vein-dyke systems located in this part of Ontario. In this case, specifically from the famous Bear Lake Diggings in Ontario which was, prior to 2016, the first publicly protected collecting site in Ontario. Some specimens from this site have even exceeded a foot in length when found inside the area's calcite vein-dykes. The site was sold in 2016, and the new owner has since closed it to collectors, making specimens from this location particularly rare and valuable. This is a quality piece for personal display or educational purposes.
