This specimen showcases a wonderful example of amethyst from the famous Thunder Bay area, renowned for producing some of North America's most attractive quartz specimens. The surface is covered with sharp, lustrous, translucent purple amethyst points, each termination zoned with microscopic hematite dots just below the surface, creating the classic red appearance typical of this locality. The contrast of purple amethyst with brick-red hematite inclusions or coatings results in a visually striking display piece. Acquired by Dr. Tarassoff at the Montreal Gem and Mineral Show in 1978, this small cabinet specimen features, pyramidal amethyst crystals in excellent condition, except for peripheral contact points at the back where it detached from the pocket wall. Beautiful!
