This is a large and very rich amethyst plate. Although it did not come with a label, the deep colour and presence of goethite inclusions strongly suggest it is from Rio Grande de Sul, Brazil. The surface is densely covered with glassy amethyst crystals showing a beautiful colour gradient, deep grape-purple at the terminations, fading to soft lavender near the base.
Delicate sprays of gold-to-brown micro goethite are present both as inclusions and sprinkled on the crystal surfaces; while only visible under the microscope, they are fascinating to examine, often having a double-ended broom-like habit. The specimen is in excellent condition, with just a single point showing minor damage (highlighted in the video, as it is otherwise difficult to notice). Sculptural and vibrant, this piece would make a striking centrepiece and a standout addition to any collection or display.
