This specimen is an excellent combination piece featuring a cluster of pale yellow, elongated scalenohedral calcite crystals with short terminations. Most of these crystals are nested among miniature quartz crystals atop the specimen. A doubly-terminated calcite crystal faces the observer from the front of the specimen, sitting in a bed of dark quartz druzy, creating a striking contrast. Additionally, some grey dolomite is visible around the perimeter.
This specimen comes from the Grant Quarry in Gloucester County, which is part of the Beekmantown Formation. This formation extends through several locations, from Saratoga Springs, NY, and Herkimer, NY, to St-Clothilde and St-Eustache in Quebec, and Greely, Ontario.
